In 2023, our chapter hosted two Project Pipeline camps, which was quite an accomplishment.
The first was at St. Michael School in St. Michael, Arizona. This was the first camp of this kind to take place in the Navajo Nation. We had 16 campers, with four volunteers who made the four-hour drive to the school and stayed overnight. We had another four volunteers help assemble the materials and presentation. The campers were creative and open to learning about the architecture field. We were privileged to have Tamara Begay, the first Native American Woman to be licensed in the State of Arizona to be a guest speaker at the camp. We look forward to hosting another camp at this location in 2024.
In October, we hosted our second Project Pipeline camp of the year at the Sagrado Galleria in South Phoenix, which is owned and operated by our dear friend Sam Gomez. This was a two-day camp that introduced students to sketching, architectural styles and building scale, material components, and finally model-building and presentation skills.
Thank you to all of our volunteers to making this possible.
