Introduction to basic drivers in selection of structural systems. With structures getting larger and more complex, and with sustainability and the variable nature of both material costs and availability, we intend to present the importance of communicating with your structural engineer to evaluate what type(s) of structural system(s) will be most appropriate to help achieve your design intent and project goals while navigating cost, schedule, and constraints.

Prerequisite Knowledge:
Familiarity with Occupancy Classification, Construction Type, and general construction materials.

Speaker Description
Matt Horne PE, Marshall Carman PE SE, Chris Harper, PE, SE all Principals at Schaefer, will help with the understanding on how to best create a successful project and achieve the most optimal outcome. This will Include, but not limited to, a general introduction into what are some common materials, their basic characteristics, evaluate and compare structural systems to help determine what solution will best satisfy the program requirements for both short and long—term goals.
