SUMMARY:Structural System Selection
DESCRIPTION:Free event\n1 AIA LU credit\nRSVP now\n\nJoin us at Schaefer’s new office to learn about structural system selection. Our friends at Schaefer invite you to a happy hour/firm introduction before the session followed by Q&A for those that can stay afterwards. We look forward to seeing you all there – please be sure to RSVP so we know how many people to expect and do forward this along to any friends that may be interested. \n\n5:30 to 6:00 Happy hour/Firm introduction\n6:00 to 7:00 Presentation/Seminar\n7:00 to 7:30 For those interested\, follow up Q&A session on Subject Matter\, Firm history\, etc.\n\nCourse Description:\nIntroduction to basic drivers in selection of structural systems. With structures getting larger and more complex\, and with sustainability and the variable nature of both material costs and availability\, we intend to present the importance of communicating with your structural engineer to evaluate what type(s) of structural system(s) will be most appropriate to help achieve your design intent and project goals while navigating cost\, schedule\, and constraints. \nPrerequisite Knowledge:\nFamiliarity with Occupancy Classification\, Construction Type\, and general construction materials. \nSpeaker Description\nMatt Horne PE\, Marshall Carman PE SE\, Chris Harper\, PE\, SE all Principals at Schaefer\, will help with the understanding on how to best create a successful project and achieve the most optimal outcome. This will Include\, but not limited to\, a general introduction into what are some common materials\, their basic characteristics\, evaluate and compare structural systems to help determine what solution will best satisfy the program requirements for both short and long—term goals. \nLearning Objectives \n\nIdentify + prioritize drivers behind the selection of a structural system\nExamine multiple structural systems + identify advantages of each for a given building type (three-story medical office building)\nExamine the benefits for using multiple structural systems on a single project for a given building type with multiple ‘use and occupancies’ categories. (five story senior living center)\nBe familiar with the impacts a structural system has on program requirements\, design opportunities\, sustainability + cost\nKnow what questions + conversations to have with your structural engineer at the start of project\n\n  \nParking\nParking garage located to west of building. Please park in guest parking and bring ticket to presentation for validation. See reference plan below.
