SUMMARY:Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza Tour
DESCRIPTION:Free event\nOpen to public\nPPE required (closed-toed shoes\, safety glasses\, safety vest) so please RSVP to secure your spot!\nRSVP and save in your calendar!\n\nJoin our next tour of the newly opened and still under construction Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza led by Brett Elsasser\, Willmeng Project Manager\, and Brandon Sobiech\, DIG Studio Associate Principal. \nDig Studio in close collaboration with Ritoch Powell and Lake|Flato Architects developed guiding principles with the City for the renovation that were based on previous plan outreach. These principles included the creation of an entertainment destination\, providing a connected center\, honoring Scottsdale Civic Center’s history\, celebrating cultural influences and significant cultural impact of the surrounding institutions\, providing daily layers and flexibility in programming and setting a new standard for high-performance design. \nThe project consists of nine acres of iconic open public space constructed over 50 years ago in the heart of downtown Scottsdale\, Arizona. With a bond-funded $27.5 million budget\, the Civic Center Plaza Renovation Project will upgrade the utility infrastructure\, grading and drainage\, and the landscape as well as provide a new decorative hardscape. Improvements will include new structural elements\, such as two multi-functional stages\, restroom facilities\, a children’s play area with a mist-fog system\, and a play area with a shade canopy. \nParking: If using Google or Apple maps – please use the following address which directs you to the parking lot next to the Willmeng trailer where we will meet: \n7469 E Indian School Rd\nScottsdale\, AZ 85251 \nSince we won’t be there all day\, attendees can park for free in any of the highlighted areas on the map below. \nIf you would like to host a tour in the future\, please contact Pratima Tatikonda at pratimatatikonda@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Coffee Talk #9 - Code Switching
DESCRIPTION:This Month’s Topic: Code Switching – The impact of how we present ourselves in different situations.\nFree event — no membership needed\nRSVP so we know you’re coming – it helps us plan ahead 🙂 \n\nWhat is code-switching? — Code switching is the ways in which a member of an underrepresented group (consciously or unconsciously) adjusts their language\, syntax\, grammatical structure\, behavior\, and appearance to fit into the dominant culture.\n\nCode switching is more common than you think – so let’s talk about it! \n——————- \nChilte is located on Grave Avenue inside The Egyptian motor hotel. Free street parking available along both sides of Grand Avenue (note – no parking at The Egyptian – those spaces are reserved for guests). \n—————– \nEvery other month join us for Coffee Talks – order a warm/iced beverage of your choice from rotating café locations around the valley\, get comfortable\, and bring your open mind to this productive discussion where NOMAarizona facilitators will ask the group questions and hold space to share\, listen\, and learn from each other in a casual setting. \nThis is intended to be a forum for discussion of ideas and for learning about differing viewpoints. In discussions around diversity and equity it is important to understand that everyone sees and experiences the world differently – what seems “right” in your experience may not be so in someone else’s. Everyone is asked to consider different perspectives\, for the purpose of sensitivity\, learning\, and growth. Members of NOMAarizona will typically be the facilitators for our discussions. We are not experts. We are simply here to help facilitate the process. We are here\, like everyone else\, to learn. \nIf you have a topic you’d like to chat about or a location to suggest – submit to jena.m.esquivel@gmail.com
