SUMMARY:Coffee Talk #13 - Self Care
DESCRIPTION:RSVP here so we know how much space to reserve!\n\nThis Month’s Topic: Self-care\nFree event – no membership needed (we just ask that you please support the small businesses we visit by purchasing something if you can) \n—————– \nLOCATION\nThis month we’re headed to a local operated plant store in historic Grand Avenue area of Phoenix called Pueblo that serves beverages outside on their patio by the coffee cart Caffio Epresso. \n1025 Grand Ave\, Phoenix\, AZ 85007 \n—————– \nABOUT COFFEE TALKS\nEvery other month join us for Coffee Talks – order a warm/iced beverage of your choice from rotating café locations around the valley\, get comfortable\, and bring your open mind to this productive discussion where NOMAarizona facilitators will ask the group questions and hold space to share\, listen\, and learn from each other in a casual setting. \nThis is intended to be a forum for discussion of ideas and for learning about differing viewpoints. In discussions around diversity and equity it is important to understand that everyone sees and experiences the world differently – what seems “right” in your experience may not be so in someone else’s. Everyone is asked to consider different perspectives\, for the purpose of sensitivity\, learning\, and growth. Members of NOMAarizona will typically be the facilitators for our discussions. We are not experts. We are simply here to help facilitate the process. We are here\, like everyone else\, to learn. \n—————– \nIf you have a topic you’d like to chat about or a location to suggest – submit to jena.m.esquivel@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Project Pipeline
DESCRIPTION:Student Registration\nMentor Registration\n\nProject Pipeline and is a national program established by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) to empower young people to affect change in their community through design. Using their environment as the classroom and connecting young people to real world architects and planners\, we foster the next generation of design professionals\, civic leaders\, and changemakers. We advocate for fellowship\, equity\, and excellence in design. \nWe want to connect students that are underrepresented in the design field with real world professionals. Our program better prepares students for high school\, college and life beyond. Through Project Pipeline\, young people grasp the significance of architecture in their daily lives\, as well as the broader cultural\, social\, and historical implications. They develop the skills and tools to contribute to their community critically and constructively. \nThe program is a two full day program where we guide students through all stages of design using provoking and fun exercises. Students investigate through drawing\, and model building\, and analyze through diagramming and research. By the program’s conclusion\, students present a fully realized project that addresses an issue in their city. All materials will be provided for the students. \nSTUDENT REGISTRATION: \nQualifying students must be enrolled in 6th\, 7th or 8th Grade for Fall of 2023. \n__________________________ \nLocation: Sagrado Galleria \n6437 S Central Ave\nPhoenix\, AZ 85042 \nDate: Friday\, October 13 and Saturday\, October 14 from 8:30 – 2:30 each day \n__________________________ \nThis camp introduces middle school students to architecture through various lessons with the ultimate goal of creating a group project. \n\nDay 1 – Intro & Sketching / Architectural Types and Scale\nDay 2 – Materials & Inspiration / Modeling and Presentation\n\n___________________________ \nLast day to register is October 10 \nIf you have any questions contact \n\nOmar Bailey obailey@shepleybulfinch.com\nMary Sellin mary@jammonstudios.com

SUMMARY:Coffee Talk #12 - Hispanic Heritage
DESCRIPTION:This Month’s Topic: ¿Soy Hispano? What it means to be Hispanic.\nSeptember 15th-October 15th is recognized as Hispanic Heritage month. But what does it even mean to be Hispanic? Is it a language\, a place of origin\, a race\, a way of life\, or something else? From the confusing census forms to the word itself there are many grey areas that might leave this diverse set of people feeling an identity crisis – let’s dive into the nuances of how each of us defines Hispanic culture and explore the areas we’re proud of. \n—————– \n\nFree event – no membership needed (we just ask that you please support the small businesses we visit by purchasing something if you can)\nRSVP\n\n—————– \nLOCATION \nThis month we’re headed to a Mexican-owned and operated business in Phoenix called Tres Leches Cafe that serves some classics like horchata\, aguas frescas\, and other Mexican-inspired beverages. They even have pan dulce (sweet bread) to go with your cafecito (little coffee)! \nTres Leches Cafe has 2 locations and we are meeting at the location on the north side of Van Buren st just west of 17th ave. A small parking lot is located behind the building to the north. The other location is a small drive-through so please don’t get confused! \n1714 W Van Buren St\nPhoenix\, Arizona 85007 \n—————– \nABOUT COFFEE TALKS \nEvery other month join us for Coffee Talks – order a warm/iced beverage of your choice from rotating café locations around the valley\, get comfortable\, and bring your open mind to this productive discussion where NOMAarizona facilitators will ask the group questions and hold space to share\, listen\, and learn from each other in a casual setting. \n—————– \nIf you have a topic you’d like to chat about or a location to suggest – submit to jena.m.esquivel@gmail.com \n
