DESCRIPTION:Project Pipeline is a national program established by the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) to empower students of color to affect change in their community through design. Using their environment as the classroom and connecting students to local architects and planners\, we foster the next generation of design professionals\, civic leaders\, and change makers. We advocate for fellowship\, equity\, and excellence in design. \nWe want to connect students that are underrepresented in the design field with local professionals. Our program better prepares students for high school\, college and life beyond. Through Project Pipeline\, students grasp the significance of architecture in their daily lives\, as well as the broader cultural\, social\, and historical implications. They develop the skills and tools to contribute to their community critically and constructively. \nNOMAarizona Chapter’s Project Pipeline camp will be located in Phoenix and is a two full day program where we guide students through all stages of design using thought-provoking and fun exercises. Students investigate through drawing\, model building\, analyze through diagramming and research. By the program’s conclusion\, students present a fully realized project that addresses an issue in their city. \nAll materials and food will be provided for the students. \nQualifying students must be enrolled in 6th\, 7th or 8th Grade for Fall of 2024 \nRegister here

DESCRIPTION:Hello all and welcome to the eighth Coffee Talk of the Year!\n\nOn October 19th\, we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Indigenous People’s Month. Every human here on earth is a product of the many people who came before them. With that comes many stories\, knowing’s\, and experiences. At this Coffee Talk\, will be discussing our roots and lineages that each of us come from. Join us at Chilte in Phoenix at 10am to share your stories!\n\nAbout Chilte: Chilte is a creative Mexican cuisine aiming to shake up the norm.\n\nWhat are Coffee Talks? Coffee Talks are a NOMAarizona monthly event. Order a beverage of your choice from rotating cafe locations around the valley. In Coffee Talks\, we come together to share\, listen\, and learn in a casual setting. This is a place where topics both light and heavy can be discussed welcomingly while learning from different perspectives and joining in community. We encourage all to join in the conversation as we explore many topics and coffee shops with NOMAarizona.\n\nFollow up: At each Coffee Talk\, the facilitators take notes. Individual stories and names are not included in the notes to maintain the confidentiality of each person. DESCRIPTION:Join Founding Member Gary J. Nelson\, AIA\, NOMA\, Architect for the City of Phoenix Office of the Engineer\, for an enlightening discussion on navigating the Municipal sector. Gary will share his firsthand experience and delve into projects in the pipeline and key trends shaping the field. This session promises valuable insights into the evolving landscape of municipal architecture and engineering. \nThe Phoenix metro area is one of the fastest-growing communities in the US. As a result\, cities need to expand their facilities that serve their constituents (e.g.\, community centers\, offices\, municipal facilities). \nThe increase of opportunities calls for design professionals to have strategic approaches to being selected for projects. This seminar will provide some tips in public sector business development and marketing\, from does and don’ts in generating Statement of Qualifications to how to identify and prepare for upcoming opportunities in cities. \nGary J. Nelson is an architect for the CIty of Phoenix. Prior to joining the city\, he has over 20 years in the private sector pursuing and winning municipal projects.
